Storage Of Cement

Storage of cement is a day-to-day affair for construction companies as it is always required to store cement for later use as deliveries are irregular at times.

All that matters for cement to stay away from deterioration is to save it from exposure to moisture.
Normally absorption of 1 or 2 percent of the water has no appreciable effect. But cement loses its strength as the moisture increases. With more fineness cement's vulnerability increases towards moisture.

Therefore cement is stored in bins of 2m depth or more. A crust of about 50mm thickness forms at the top usually and is required to be taken out when the cement is to be used.

Cement can be kept in bags also and then stored under waterproof sheds. The cement stored must not be disturbed once stacked as restacking may expose the cement to air.
