How to calculate the size of a circular water tank and its Capacity?
Today, we are going to learn about the calculation size of a circular water tank.
In a small residential building, we have to use a water tank to store water for various purposes like cooking, drinking, bathing, using toilets, cleaning clothes, cleaning house, cleaning utensils and many other purposes.
These tanks can be made of various shapes and sizes like a rectangular water tank and circular water tank storing water. But today, we will learn about the size of a circular water tank.
How to calculate the size of a circular water tank?
Assuming we need 2000 liters of capacity for a circular water tank, how do we calculate the size of a circular water tank?
Calculation of the size of a circular water tank having water capacity is 2000 liters.
Given capacity of circular water tank
circular water tank volume Capacity = 2000 liters,
Such that volume (V) = 2m3 and
We know that 1000 liter = 1m3
2000 liter = 2×1m3
= 2m3
We can calculate its capacity in liters by using formula,
Volume of circular water tank = πr2h
Where V= volume of circular water tank = 2m3
Assume, diameter of water tank = 1m
r = radius of circular water tank = 1/2 = 0.5m
h = height of circular water tank
π =pie = 3.14
Both dimension radius and height of circular water tank is not given so we should assume one dimension radius or height of circular water tank.
Putting the value of all given dimension volume radius and height,
Solving V = π r2 h,
2 = π (0.5) 2 h,
2 = (3.14) x (0.25) h,
2 = 0.785 x h,
h = 2/0.785= 2.55m,
So radius 0.5m and height 2.55m of a circular water tank has a capacity of 2000 litres.
Also, can be defined as,
Volume = 2000 liter = 2 m3
Diameter of water tank = 1 m
Height of water tank = 2.55 m
How to calculate the Quantity of water in a Circular Tank?
We will be determining the capacity Water in the Circular Tank by an example.
Let's focus on these pictures
Remember the capacity of the tank can be calculated in terms of volume (meters) and if we multiply the volume with 1000, we can get the capacity of the tank in liters.
Now, let's go ahead. The total capacity of the tank or the volume of the tank can be the area of the base times the depth of the tank.
∴, For circular Tanks
So, volume of tank = 𝝅/4 x d2 x h
Here,
Height of tank = 2.55 m & Diameter of tank =1 m
∴,
Volume of Circular Tank
= 𝝅/4 x d2 x h
= 3.1415/4 * 12 * 4.5
= 2.0 m3
Also, we know that the water is measured in liters not in cubic meters.
∴ ,
∴, Volume of Circular Tank in liters
= 2 * 1000
= 2000 liters
In case of gallon,
1 gal = 3.78541 liters
∴, Volume of Tank (Gallon)
= 2000 / 3.78541
=529 gal
